Luna's founder, Yvonne de Villiers, hand picked a Luna guitar that she thought most fitting for each of the final five American Idol contestants. Each instrument was sent to the set with a personal hand written letter tucked inside and presented to the finalists by Luna's division manager, Derek Badala.

Syesha Mercado received a Fauna Dolphin
David Cook received a custom built left-handed Apollo
David Archuleta received a Neo Your Space
Yvonne had this to say to the five recipients:
"I commend each of you for the courage you have shown in singing your note,
finding your sweet spot, and daring to be who you are.
There are ultimately two emotions... fear and love.
Despite fear of failure, you have made the decision to be as
bold as love! And no matter what fame or rewards you may gain
from participation in American Idol or any future endeavors,
I hope you are proudest of yourself for that fact. Ultimately it is all that matters.
May the beauty you love always be what you do."
