Loga Ramin Torkian

The unique blend of global cultures and sounds that Loga Ramin Torkian, Azam Ali and Carmen Rizzo bring to the world music group Niyaz has gained widespread praise from reviewers and fans in many countries. At once both acoustic and electronic, the melodies weave and flow in hypnotic and arresting fashion, testament to the musicians' sublime talents and technical skills.

Equally adept as both composer and player of various instruments, Loga Ramin Torkian, like vocalist Azam Ali, is a native of Iran. He is known for his unique ability to play the guitarviol, an electric bowed guitar inspired by a 14th-century instrument. These days, Loga has added a beautiful Luna Guitars Henna Paradise model to his lineup of instruments. Loga tells us that the intricate pattern designed by artist Alex Morgan provides the perfect accompaniement to the culturally rich music for which Niyaz is known.

Azam Ali, an accomplished hammer dulcimer player, has a superb voice that Billboard magazine has called "a glorious, unforgettable instrument." Born in Iran and raised in India before migrating to the U.S., Azam has multiple solo albums to her credit and has earned enthusiastic acclaim for her versatility as both singer and composer.

Producer and remixer Carmen Rizzo has earned two Grammy nominations for his innovative work with electronic sound. He has collaborated with artists ranging from Seal and Alanis Morisette to Cirque du Soliel and Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Although all three members of Niyaz have built successful solo careers, their coming together as a group has given listeners a distinctive sound that is at once complex and simple, completely new yet rooted in ancient tradition. Niyaz touched many parts of the world in 2007 on tour. Following that, the group has returned to the studio to put the finishing touches on their next album, due out in 2008. Listen for Loga's Luna when you hear the enchanting melodies of Niyaz. Read more about the group and check for updates on their tour schedule at www.niyazmusic.com.
