Listen to VIXEN mp3s:

Jan Kuehnemund

Metal band Vixen made major waves on the LA music scene back in the 1980s, earning the nickname "Queens of Metal." Their early hits included "Edge of a Broken Heart" and "Cryin'." When founder Jan Kuehnemund, who contributes her guitar and songwriting prowess to the group, decided to take a break in the early 90s, the group went their separate ways. During that time, Jan played with Drawing Down the Moon and Population 361.

Following the advent of the new millennium, Jan decided to resurrect Vixen. She lured vocalist Jenna Sanz-Agero and drummer Kat Kraft from the LA bands with whom they'd played (Belladonna, NoNo BadDog, Some Like It Hot) and recruited bassist Lynn Louise Lowrey from the Florida band Armadillo Sandwich. The women embarked on the "Voices of Metal" U.S. tour, playing dates nationwide, then headed back to LA to reinvent their sound and to pen songs for a new CD.

The Hairball John Radio Show had this to say in their review of the new Vixen:

"With the upcoming release of "Live And Learn", Vixen has matured musically in a way that will go over very well with their classic fans. While maintaining the vintage Vixen sound, "Live And Learn" also has modern elements of a darker/heavier Vixen that come off as a natural progression for the band and not intentionally contrived to fit into 2006. "Live And Learn" is a release that will please the classic Vixen fans as well as garner them a whole new generation of listeners."

That CD "Live and Learn" is set for 2006 release, and "Little Voice" and "Love Song" are two cuts receiving excellent advance reviews. The group plans a worldwide tour to support their new release, with scheduled stops in England, Germany, Norway, Spain and beyond.

Luna is pleased to call Jan Kuehnemund a Luna Artist.
