Where are you from and where do you currently reside?
I am from Geneva, NY and I currently live in Buffalo, NY.
What musical influences did you have while you were growing up?
My musical influences have ranged anywhere from rock guitarists such as Slash from Guns N Roses and Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme to contemporary guitarists such as Jack Johnson and John Mayer.
At what point in life did you decide you wanted to play guitar and do something more with it?
I always appreciated music ever since I was young but I didnt start playing guitar until the age of 11 after I beat all of the songs on Guitar Hero II on Expert mode. A few years later during my senior year of high school, my band teacher let me perform Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd at my high school graduation ceremony in 2014. After playing with the band and in front of a large crowd I knew that I wanted that feeling again someday. Since then, my musical tastes and guitar playing have evolved. When I began college at the University at Buffalo, I brought my acoustic guitar with me which gave me a chance to meet new people and grow as a guitarist. I was playing more than I had in the past and I began writing songs, listening to new music, and experimenting with fingerstyle guitar. Learning and writing new riffs on my guitar made me wonder what other people thought of my music, not necessarily friends and family but strangers who would give me objective criticism. With this idea in mind, I turned to Instagram where I began posting guitar pictures and videos as well as engaging with others who shared similar interests. Now I know that creating guitar content is something I want to do until I figure out how I want to record my own original music.
How would you describe your playing style and where do you get your inspiration to write or play more songs?
My playing style exists somewhere on a spectrum of ambient jazz, progressive metal, and acoustic fingerstyle influences. My inspiration for creating riffs and writing songs varies but it typically depends on my mood or my surroundings. In this sense it becomes a combination of my guitar playing and lyric writing as a result of hearing something new or expressing aspects of my life.
What role do you think Social Media plays in the music industry and how does it apply to what you do?
Social media appeals to younger generations and it allows for music to be consumed on multiple platforms. It essentially promotes social engagement and connectivity in the music industry anywhere from artists and their listeners to music companies and content creators. New markets and aspects of todays music industry are owed to social media which relates to people like me who are hobbyist musicians or bedroom guitarists that are elsewhere in life but want to be involved in the community and share their passion with others.
What keeps your social media audience engaged? Which social media platform works best for you? Explain.
I would say that responding to comments and answering messages initially keeps my audience engaged and gives them a reason to reach out to me with their own input. Asking questions in my captions, live streaming, offering giveaways, and creating interactive challenges also tend to boost engagement. As of my recent endorsement with Luna Guitars, I would have to say that my new role as a content creator and brand ambassador keeps things interesting for my audience. In my experience, I have had the most success with Instagram because I find that social elements of this platform are more personal and it allows me to post both pictures and short videos.
What role does music play in your day to day life?
Music serves as a creative outlet in my daily life. In other words, it gives me a chance to escape routine whether its making music or listening to it.
Which Luna models do you play now? How do those models meet your needs and playing style?
I currently play my Luna Vista Deer Acoustic/Electric Guitar in addition to my Luna TAT34 Long Scale Bass. Since I typically write music focused on acoustic guitar and record videos that feature both guitar and bass, they meet my needs for audio and aesthetic quality. People often reach out to me based on the looks of my guitars alone.
If you could play alongside an artist living or deceased, who would it be and why?
While I have many favorite artists, I would love to jam out with John Mayer because some of his music has shaped and influenced the way I write my own. He was one of the artists that made me realize that guitar solos should be expressed through emotions to invoke feelings rather than just being played.
Tell us about your current situation and whats on the horizon for you?
My current situation is that I am graduating this spring with a degree in Civil Engineering and I plan on recording my own original music for either an EP or album sometime this year. With this in mind I hope to continue working with Luna Guitars wherever my music may take me.
What do you like to do outside of music?
I really enjoy doing anything outside such as hiking and camping in addition to snowboarding and dirt biking. I also love being around friends and family, whether its relaxing or having a good time. For these reasons I like working with Luna Guitars because the Luna family is all about the vibe and all about the tribe.
